The X-2 MOD  HD Handguard was designed for  Match rifle, AR Tactical Rifle competitors and hunters who wanted a longer dedicated handguard and barrel nut combo for standard M4 uppers. These handguards are 15" long, 2.25" DIA and have a full length hand stop or bipod slot at the 6 oclock position. The primary design goal of the barrel nut was to provide a barrel nut that would not require a shim to install it correctly on the upper reciever. We also designed our new barrel nut to be longer, thicker and stronger to provide even more stability than the Aero Precision barrel nuts. We also incresed the distance between the screw holes as well as increased the screw size from a #8 to a #10 screw to provide an even stronger connecttion between the handguard and the barrel nut. We removed the screw holes from the handguard from the 6 and 12 oclock position and added another hole at the 3 and 9 positions for more fastener locations to hold the optional weights.  These handguards will require the use of a low profile gas block or a gas block moved at least 2" further forward than a standard rifle length gas system. It still offers better barrel cooling, greater stiffness and a more useable gripping surface than any other handguard on the market. A bipod mount is avalible from Atlas (PN: BT33) to fit the handstop slot at 6 oclock for those wanting to use a bipod on their rifle. You must use a thread lubricant Loctite LB8008 (ANTI-SIEZE) on barrel nut to upper reciever threads. Barrel nuts are made from 7075-T6 aluminum, minimum reccomended torque is 30ft-lb. Vibratite to be used on handguard weight screws and handguard to barrel nut mounting screws ONLY.
